USPF to represent PHL in Asian Beach volley bash
For winning the National Students Beach Volleyball championship, a seat to the Asian Beach Volleyball Championship awaits Cebuâs University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF). USPF took Manila by storm after beating University of the East, 21-10, 21-10, in straight sets in the National Students Asian Beach Volleyball Championship last week. USFP, the reigning titlist in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) event, outclassed their more illustrious rivals who won the championship in the Petron-Beach Volley Tour in Boracay Edition. But the bets from the South showed why they deserved to represent the Philippines in the event to be held in Laozhou City, Shandong province in China from July 15 to 20. Veteran Erika Camille Verano displayed her might through powerful service aces coupled by a strong defense at the net by Apple Saraum. Their tandem caught Lady Warriors Krysey Cueva and Francislyn Cais flatfooted en route to a convincing triumph in the event organized by the Philippine Schools Volleyball Association (PSVA) headed by chairman Dr. Diosdado Amante of EARIST State college. The Cebu-basaed school dominated its rivals â Rizal Technological University, EARIST State College, and UE â all the way towards winning the title. âWe came here (Manila) to compete and give the opposition a run for their money. We wanted to come up with a respectable campaign, because we didnât know the strength of the teams we would be facing. More than what we expected, we won the championship and a ticket to China. Credit goes to my playersâ determination and USPF management support. We will prepare and train for the Asian Championship when we get back to Cebu," said USPF coach Thelma Datig. - KY, RCJ, GMA News
