CamSur to host ultra marathon event

Camarines Sur will host The North Face 100 Philippines 2011, a 100-kilometer ultra marathon event, on April 30 and May 1 at the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC). The two-day event, which is part of the 2011 The North Face 100 Asia-Pacific series, will be an extreme challenge for trail and ultra marathon runners. The race will also have stops in Taiwan, China, Australia, Singapore, Japan and possibly Thailand. Jundel Llagas, The North Face division manager, said this year's event will certainly be different from the 2010 edition in Baguio City in terms of overcoming the terrain. "We've moved our course to Camarines Sur where the scorching summer heat and taxing terrain will challenge our trail runners to break all boundaries," said Llagas. Race director Neville Manaois added the course will highlight the beauty of Cmarines Sur with the dormant volcanoes of Mt. Isarog and Mt. Iriga serving as the backdrop of the race. "We only choose the most challenging, picturesque and unspoiled landscape for our courses." The men's and women's champions in the 100-km event will take home P30,000 cash and P10,000 gift certificates from The North Face. The other distances that will be offered in the race are 50km, 22km and 11km both in the men's and women's divisions. - Reuben Terrado, JVP, GMA News
