Loyzaga named PSC acting executive director
Chito Loyzaga has been named as the acting executive director of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) replacing Geraldine Bernardo. Loyzaga's appointment was stated in PSC office order number 11-026 signed by PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia. The office order also said that Loyzaga will still be a PSC commissioner. Under the PSC law, it is recommended that the PSC executive director will come from the board of commissioners. "In the interest and exigency of the service, Commissioner Joaquin C. Loyzaga is hereby designated as acting executive director, concurrent with his appointment as Commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commisison," said the office order. "As such, Commissioner Loyzaga shall discharge the duties and functions of the office of the executive director vice Ms. Geraldine G. Bernardo," the office order added. Calls and text messages by GMA News to Garcia were unanswered on why Loyzaga replaced Bernardo. Loyzaga, however, confirmed via text message that he was appointed as acting executive director but didn't elaborate further as he was in a meeting. Aside from being the PSC commissioner, Loyzaga, a former PBA cager for Ginebra, is also the chief of mission for Team Philippines in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in November in Palembang, Indonesia. Bernardo, a former dragon boat national team member and a part of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) athletes' commission, was appointed executive director last July along with Garcia, Loyzaga and PSC commissioners Salvador Andrada and Jose Luis Gomez. â Reuben Terrado, JVP, GMA News
