UP Pep Squad tops cheerleading tilt in National Games
The multi-titled University of the Philippines pep squad dominated the cheerleading competition of the POC-PSC Philippine National Games by capturing three of the four gold medals at stake in the side event of the week-long competitions in Bacolod City. The Lalaine Perena-coached squad bagged the gold medals in the group, partner stunts and mixed stunts events of the tournament held at the St. John Institute. UP, a six-time UAAP cheerleading champion, earned the right of representing the country in the in the 6th World Cheerleading Championships set on November 26 and 27 in Hong Kong. Centro Escolar University was second overall with one gold, two silver and two bronze medals while Polytechnic University of the Philippines took home four medals â three silvers and one bronze. International Federation of Cheerleading secretary general, a guest of Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) president Cynthia Carrion, witnessed the GAP-organized tournament and also awarded the medals. â JVP, GMA News
