Exec: RP wushu team can hit gold at Asian Games

The Filipino wushu team can still win a gold medal at the Doha Asian Games, even minus two athletes, according to Wushu Federation Philippines president Julian Camacho. "We are still optimistic on our chances to win medal, possibly the gold," Camacho said on Monday. Kenneth Lim, the Philippine's entry in the taijiquan-taijijian event suffered a serious injury that forced him to stay out of the competition. Lim was a silver medallist in the 2005 Philippine Sea Games, and was supposed to compete for the first time in the Asian Games. "Sayang naman kung papupuntahin natin siya pero di rin makakalaro. May tsansa sana siya pero hindi naman ito makakaapekto sa ating kampanya dahil ang mga inaasahan natin ay nasa team pa rin," Camacho explained. Lim was the second player in the wushu roster to be left out of the delegation. The first was Arvin Ting, the former world champion and 2005 SEAG gold medallist in the jianshu event of the taolo (form) competitions. Ting was sacked for his failure to attend training. Camacho said that world champion Rene Catalan is still with the team and he hopes that the sanshou (sparring) specialist will win the medal. The wushu delegation leaves on Dec. 8 for Qatar, and the wushu competitions, which have 11 gold medal at stake, will be held from Dec. 11 to 14. - GMANews.TV
