An intercollegiate tournament is one of the programs the new administration of the Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) wants to implement. Newly-elected PNSA president Mikee Romero hopes the inter-collegiate shooting tournament will be included in the calendar of UAAP and NCAA in the future. The short-term program is aimed at developing new talents for the sport. “We hope to uplift the sport. We’re planning this intercollegiate shooting competition on the third or fourth week of September this year," said Romero in Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum. Romero, chief executive officer of Harbour Centre, which won numerous championships in the PBL, said the PNSA will conduct free clinics to the schools which they plan to invite for the tournament. “This is the first program of the new PNSA. We will be inviting as many schools as possible. This is the first step in hopefully making it a regular event in the collegiate level," said Romero. Nathaniel “Tac" Padilla, the head of the youth development program of the PNSA, said the shooting clinics will be held every weekend with the shooters in the program eventually competing in the tournament. “This is a clinic that is free-of-charge. They are required to practice in our shooting range in Fort Bonifacio until September where the shootfest will be held," said Padilla, a multi-titled Southeast Asian Games shooter. Romero reiterated PNSA’s thrust of increasing the membership to get a higher chance of discovering talents—particularly Olympic-caliber athletes. – RCJ/KBK, GMA News
