Two Pinoy tankers barge into 400m medley finals in Doha
Miguel Molina and James Walsh of the Philippies barged into the 400 meters individual medley finals of the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar Saturday, according to results posted on the official games website. Molina posted the second best time of 4:28.99 seconds in Heat One at Hamed Aquatics Center where the swimming competitions are in full gear. Molina's time is fourth best among the eight finalist in the medal round, which will be played at 6 pm (Doha time and 11 pm Philippine time). Japanese swimmers Hidemasa Sano ( 4:25.21) and Shinya Taniguchi (4:25.62 ) submitted the best time in the heats. Korean Han Kyu Chul of Korea has 4:27.33 to beat Molina for the third best time in the heats. Walsh, on the other hand, was clocked at 2:01.94 for the fourth best in heat one of the men's 200m butterfly. The clocking put Walsh at sixth best among the eight finalists. Three other Filipinos floundered in the heats where only the top eight performers qualify. Erica Totten, another Filipino-American, could only place 13th in the women's 200-meter freestyle (2: 08.83) and 16th in the women's 100-meter butterfly (1:08.04). Maria Giorgina Gandionco ended up 15th in the women's 200-meter freestyle (2:09.72) while Denjylie Cordero wound up 13th in the women's 50-meter breastroke (36.02). -GMANews.TV
