The Mail and More Comets posted their third victory with a 67-58 win over Magnolia Ice Cream Spinners at the PBL Silver Cup eliminations Tuesday at the Letran Gym. The Comets were led by JR Quinahan, who got ample support from Jorel Canizares, Marvin Yambao, and Mike Bravo in defeating the Spinners and tying with Sista for the second spot. The 6'-6" Quinahan finished with 21 points, 10 of which he sank in the third quarter, when the boys of coach Lawrence Chongson moved ahead by 15 points, 57-42. "JR is one of our veteran players and our marquee player," Congson said. "He showed leadership today but other players stepped up for the team like Jorel and Marvin. The win should be credited to the players' resolve." Canizares added seven points, all of which he posted in the second period, when the Comets balloned their 14-13 advantage to a 27-18 lead. Yambao, on the other hand, provided 10 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals before being forced back to the bench due to a bad fall that injured his right knee. Samuel Ekwe, the 6'-8" center of Koy Banal, was the only player of Magnolia with double figures, with his 18 points and 16 rebounds. Because of the defeat, the Spinners lost the momentum they had gained following their 97-74 win over Kettle Korn-UST. The Spinners are now saddled with a 1-3 win-loss card.- GMANews.TV
