San Beda remains NCAA men's swimming champs
Event host San Beda College kept its stranglehold of the NCAA men's swimming title in Season 87 as the Red Sea Lions won their ninth straight crown in the recently concluded tournament at the Rizal Memorial pool. The Red Sea Lions, led by season MVP Wilfredo Sunglao Jr., collected 1,308.5 points after four days of competition. Sunglao won four gold medals, two of which in record-breaking fashion in the 50-meter and 100-m freestyle events. College of Saint Benilde was a far second with 522 points while Emilio Aguinaldo College (374) finished third. La Salle-Greenhills dominated the high school division with 1,211 points for the Junior Blazers' seventh consecutive title. San Sebastian and (588) San Beda (493) came in second and third, respectively. San Sebastian's Samuel Gregory Ongjoco was named the juniors MVP after resetting the meet records in the 100m and 200m butterfly, and 400m individual medley twice in the heats and the finals. San Beda snatched the women's division crown from CSB in the last year that the event will be held as a demonstration sport. San Beda, led by 2011 Arafura Games six-gold medal winner Hannah Dato, tallied 674.5 points compared to the 330.5 compiled by the Lady Blazers.
