More woes in store for PBA superstar Duremdes
The legal woes of former PBA Most Valuable Player Kenneth Duremdes are far from over. On Friday, Duremdesâ estranged wife - Vanessa Cariaga-Duremdes - filed charges of falsification of public documents and concubinage before the Quezon City prosecutorâs office. In her complaint, Vanessa, of 2180 Singalong St., Malate, Manila, alleged that Duremdes had "willfully, unlawfully and feloniously" indicated in the Certificate of Marriage which he contracted with Ma. Theresa Ibasco, particularly in the space provided for civil status that he was "single." Vanessa accused Duremdes of falsifying the said document despite the fact that he was still legally married to her. Vanessa had claimed that she married the basketball superstar on Sept. 6, 1993 before Rev. Jesus Mesa at the Manila City Hall. The complainant said she later came to know that Duremdes contracted a second marriage with Ibasco on Aug. 15, 1996 before then QC regional trial court Branch 96 Judge now Associate Justice Lucas Bersamin. Apart from Duremdes, Vanessa included in her complaint Ibasco, whom the complainant said also "willfully and unlawfully cohabited and had sexual intercourse up to the present" despite the fact that the Sta. Lucia forward is still legally married to her. "The fact of cohabitation and living with each other was expressly acknowledged and categorically admitted by Duremdes in the latterâs civil case (Declaration of Nullity of Marriage, Kenneth Duremdes vs Vanessa Cariaga-Duremdes) now being heard before the QCRTC Branch 225," Vanessa said in her complaint. Duremdes is facing bigamy charges before the sala of QCRTC Branch 215 Judge Luisa Quijano-Padilla for contracting a second marriage with Ibasco. But the Department of Justice (DOJ) ordered the suspension of the proceedings of said case pending the findings of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the authenticity of his signature on his marriage contract with Cariaga-Duremdes. - GMANews.TV
