Resurgent Teng leading UST's Final 4 push
Jeric Teng peaked at the best time for University of Santo Tomas in the 74th UAAP men's basketball tournament. Delivering one sensational performance after another, Teng carried the Tigers on his shoulders anew in a 74-58 triumph over the second-running Adamson Falcons Saturday earning him the ACCEL/3XVI UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week. The third-year shooting guard scattered 20 points in the Growling Tigers' furious second half turnaround where they overhauled a 17-point deficit and roared to a commanding advantage all through the payoff period that they calmly preserved for the huge win. "He has sustained his rhythm after his breakout game [against La Salle]," said UST coach Pido Jarencio of Teng's performance. It was indeed a superb all-around effort by Teng, son of former PBA cager Alvin "The Robocop" Teng, as he also finished with eight rebound and six assists to unanimously win the weekly plum. Teng sparked the third quarter run with a go-ahead tripleâhis first of threeâwhich gave UST its first taste of the lead lead in the game. That lead ballooned to 18 points. "We just help each other out in this team. The first round it was Karim Abdul and Chris Camus, now it's Jeric Fortuna and I [who are carrying the team]," said Teng. UST's third straight win moved them closer of clinching a coveted final four berthâneeding just one more victoryâand even go further. Teng also came through in the clutch in UST's back-to-back wins over University of the East (54-45) and La Salle (60-52). - JVP, GMA News
