RP flyweight boxer assured of silver finish at Doha

Filiipino boxer Violito Payla assured himself of at least a silver medal finish by reaching the title round of the boxing's flyweight division of the 15th Asian Games. Payla won through a referee-stopped-contest-outscored (RSCO) decision againt Yang Bo of China Sunday night at Aspire Hall 5 in Doha, Qatar. The referee stopped the fight with 1:13 left in the third round after the Filipino posted an unsurmountable 40-20 lead. Payla arranged a title showdown with Thailand's Somjit Jongjohor, who entered the final round with another RSCOS victory over Susa Katusaki of Japan. Meanwhile, Filipino boxers Godfrey Castro, Joan Tipon, and Genebert Basadre will try to also enter the final round in their respective divisions on Monday night. Light flyweight Castro will face another Thai, Suban Pannon, in the first of semifinal bouts starting at 7 p.m. (Philippine time). Tipon will follow suit in the bantamweight division against another Thai, Worapoj Petchkoom. Lightweight Basadre is going to trade blows with Hu Qing of China. - GMANews.TV
