Araneta, receiving a tight pass from Jezurel Tonog, scored the first goal inside the box in the 36th minute before Caligdong propelled the Airmen to a 2-0 lead on a wide open left-footed blast just before halftime. After ex-national team member Yanti Barsales added another goal for Air Force in the 65th, Araneta and Caligdong widened the gap in the 71st and 73rd minute to put the game away. Araneta blasted from 10 yards out and Caligdong beat the goalkeeper by his lonesome two minutes later for a 5-0 lead. Caligdong turned into a passer when he set up Winnie Subere, who returned the favor with an 83rd-minute goal. Paul Bernard Torres nodded home Navy's first goal in the 89th and Jose Caminos scored in the 91st to prevent a shutout loss. Air Force climbed on top of Group E with six points to break its tie with Navy, which stayed in second with three points. A moment of silence was held before the match in honor of the 19 soldiers who died in an encounter with MILF rebels in Basilan. In the first game, Stallions FC capped off the preliminaries with an 8-0 win over Cebu Queen City FC to top Group C with six points to clinch a spot in the knockout round. — Reuben Terrado/JVP, GMA News
