The Philippines swept the softball competitions of the 2011 Southeast Asian Games after the Blu Boys and Blu Girls hurdled their respective rivals for the gold medal at the Jakabaring Sports Complex in Palembang, Indonesia. The Blu Girls trounced Thailand, 6-0, while the Blu Boys scored a come-from-behind 7-3 win over host Indonesia to successfully defend their 2007 gold in the Nakhon Ratchasima SEA Games in Thailand. The Ana Santiago-coached Blu Girls scattered 13 hits while limiting the Thais to only three to claim the gold medal. The Blu Girls—a good mix of veteran players, collegiate standouts and former Little Leaguers—tripped Indonesia, 5-1, in the semifinals to advance to the gold medal match after sweeping the elimination round. The Blu Boys had a tougher time after bowing to Indonesia in the opening match of the eliminations but they bounced with a 2-1 win in the semifinals, 2-1. — JVP, GMA News
