UAAP 74: NU surprise leader in men's volleyball tournament

National University became the 74th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament's surprise early leader after the Bulldogs posted a 23-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23 win over University of the Philippines at the Blue Eagle Gym Wednesday.

NU dropped the first set but got their act together in the second, sweeping the next three frames as the Bulldogs notched their second straight win. Reyson Fuentes tallied 13 hits, four blocks and an ace while Edwin Tolentino and Reuben Inaudito scored 14 each for the Sampaloc-based squad. Luis Aguilan and Samuel Paquiz finished with 14 points each for the Fighting Maroons. In the other men’s game, La Salle bounced back from an opening-day loss to Far Eastern University, trouncing University of the East, 25-19, 25-16, 25-14. Red Christensen and Christopher Antonio scored 10 points each leading the Green Archers to their first win. Michael Torres and Ace Mandaini combined for 14 markers for the Red Warriors. — JVP/KG, GMA News
