Despite being hit by flash floods earlier this week, officials and residents of Talisay City in Negros Occidental have prepared a hero's welcome for their "son", boxer Joan Tipon, who won a gold medal in the recently concluded Asian Games in Doha. Sun-Star Bacolod reported Saturday afternoon that the hero's welcome and tribute for Tipon will be held on Christmas Day, December 25. Talisay City mayor Eric Saratan and vice mayor Nilo Jesus Antonio Neil Lizares III, together with the city officials, will welcome Tipon upon his arrival at the Bacolod City Airport at 6:25 a.m. A caravan will then usher Tipon to his native City of Talisay, and a short program will be held at the City Public Plaza. Saratan will lead the awarding of cash incentives to Tipon and SEA Games Gold Medalist Juanito Magliquian Jr., to be assisted by the City Council members and other City officials. Tipon bagged one of four gold medals that the Philippines won in the recently concluded 15th Asian Games at Doha, Qatar. -GMANews.TV
