Reigning women’s titlist De La Salle University guns for their second straight win of the year, ninth overall, as they take on Far Eastern University in the second round of the 74th UAAP volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Archers meet the Lady Tamaraws in the 3:30 p.m. main game after the first women’s game between Adamson and National University and the first two men's matches, which begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
The Lady Tamaraws will try to avenge their five-set loss to the Lady Archers during their first meeting, last December 10, to keep their chances of advancing into the Final Four round alive.
FEU is currently tied with University of Santo Tomas for third to fourth spots with the same 5-3, win-loss slate, behind second running Ateneo Lady Eagles (6-2).
After their straight-sets win against NU in the opening of the second round, Lady Tamaraws coach Nestor Pamilar is hoping that the performance of his wards continue to improve as the tournament progresses. "We've finally adjusted after losing (Micah) Morada early in the season. Hopefully, my players can raise their game further in the second round so we can make it into the Final Four round,” said Pamilar.
La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus still thinks there’s room for improvement for the Lady Archers as well, despite their undefeated record. “We just need to work on our service and reception and our setter needs to say focused every game."
Adamson, in the other women's game, hopes to get back in the win column after dropping its second straight game against La Salle. The Lady Falcons are currently in solo fifth place with an even 4-4 record. The National University Lady Bulldogs, on the other hand, tries to arrest a seven-game slide after winning its opening match against the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons.
Meanwhile in the men's division, FEU aims for its second straight win in the second round that would push them to the top of the heap, as they tackle Ateneo in the second game. The opener will have University of the East battling Adamson. — AMD.JVP, GMA News
