The San Beda College Red Lions proved their worth once more on the field, retaining the seniors football crown in the 87th NCAA season after dropping the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals 3-1 at the Philsports track and football field.   Tournament MVP Francis Sumudvilla led the Red Lions to an elimination round sweep and back-to-back titles after the College of St. Benilde ended a lengthy eight-year reign back in 2009.   Sumudvilla was also named Best Defender, while three of his teammates also copped awards. Michael Yuvinco won Best Goalkeeper, Christopher Belmonte won Best Mid-Fielder, and Raffy Cabug shared Best Striker honors with EAC's Bushna Fadul Amir.   The Best Scorer award was shared by CSB's Ralph Loren Porteria and Alvin Obero of Arellano University, while CSB also won the Fair Play award.   San Beda was unable to reign in both divisions however, as CSB-La Salle Greenhills shut them out in the Juniors division, 2-0, for the Juniors crown.   Rookie Mathew Custodio scored on a breakway in the 13th minute. Then at the 37th, Best Striker awardee Anton Celdran widened the gap between the two sides on a foul shot outside the penalty box.   The Red Cubs were up for several rallies, but the Greenies' defensive line prevented any major incursions, thanks to the efforts of co-captains Joaquin Atayde and Eugene De Chavez, Best Defender winner Julito Asparen, and goalkeeper Enrico Barcia.   Tourney MVP Jeune Custodio III controlled the mid-field for much of the first half, but a scary collision cut his Finals game short, as he had to be stretchered out due to a knee injury.   The Greenies also clinched the Fair Play award.   Individual honors were also extended to Ronilio Bayan Jr. of Arellano University (Best Goalkeeper), Roberto Plopinio of San Beda College (Best Mid-Fielder), and Edienzel Mark Vilizano of the University of Perpetual Help System-DALTA (Best Scorer). - AMD, GMA News
