UAAP: La Salle, UST dispute women's football crown
Eight-time champions La Salle and 2008 titlists University of Santo Tomas dispute the 74th UAAP women's football crown in the 9 a.m. winner-take-all match at the Ateneo field. The Lady Archers forced a deciding game after a 4-3 penalty shootout win over the España-based Tigresses. The match ended on a scoreless draw after 120 minutes of play. UST's Jowie Ann Barruga and Maria Christine Fuentes missed the penalty shots, allowing La Salle to escape with the win. "Our keeper (Haya Ibarra) played well," said long-time La Salle coach Hans Smit. "We were able to overcome a lot of injuries this season and I just hope we can win again." UST, already assured of clinching a record 39th general championship, hopes to end another successful season by winning a second women's football title. — JVP, GMA News
