6 p.m. San Sebastian vs. Adamson Perennial NCAA women's volleyball title contender San Sebastian College survived Letran College's tough challenge in the first set in completing a 26-24, 25-12, 25-18 triumph at the start of the Shakey's V-League Season 9 first conference Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Stags trailed 24-20 in the opening frame with the Lady Knights moving into set point after a San Sebastian reception error. The Lady Stags, however, scored four straight to tie the count and added two more to win the set. Local guest player Rubie De Leon fuelled that San Sebastian comeback with the veteran setter ending the set with a long drop shot at the Letran backline. De Leon started the rally with a block on Letran guest player Joy Cases. The Lady Stags' resident import Jang Bualee then imposed her will in the next two sets as the Thai unleashed her trademark power hits to lead San Sebastian to its opening day win. "Letran is coming off a title run in the NCAA that's why they are much confident at the start of this game," said San Sebastian coach Clint Malazo, who replaced Roger Gorayeb. "My players regained their confidence after Jang's spikes hit its mark." Gorayeb decided to concentrate in coaching the Ateneo Lady Eagles after getting a two-year ban from the NCAA following his involvement in a fight-marred volleyball match last December. "We got the momentum when we won the first set," Malazo added. Bualee paced the Lady Stags with 23 hits and an ace as she totally outclassed compatriot Patcharee Sangmuang, the Lady Knights' Thai guest player who tallied eight hits, two service aces and a block. — JVP, GMA News More Videos
