University of Perpetual Help, San Beda-A and Adamson defeated separate opponents to remain in contention for quarterfinal slots in the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament. The Altas, getting 12 and 11 points from Femi Babayemi and Scott Thompson, needed two big scoring runs to complete a 76-66 win over the Trinity University of Asia Stallions. The San Beda-A Red Cubs, the 2012 Palarong Pambansa secondary boys' finalists, banked on Arvin Dave Tolentino’s big plays in the last three minutes in squeezing out a 64-58 decision against reigning Tiong Lian champions Chiang Kai Shek Dragons. Vamico Barroga, meanwhile, scored 13 points as the Baby Falcons cruised to a 73-57 trouncing of San Beda-B. The Altas picked up their fourth win in five games to move behind unbeaten Letran (5-0) in Group B. San Beda-A, with Tolentino firing a game high 21 points, marched to their fifth consecutive victory in Group A of the junior division, while the Baby Falcons enjoy a 4-0 card in Group B. — JVP, GMA News
