UAAP: UST vs FEU preview and live-scoring
The second game of the 75th UAAP season features two Final Four teams from a year ago, looking to start their journey back to the post-season. The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers and the Far Eastern University Tamaraws square off on Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, with both teams bidding to begin the tourney with a win. For UST, it's a test of their continuity, as they bring back largely the same squad from Season 74, save for a few returning faces from Season 73. And on the other hand, FEU will see if their new bunch has already developed chemistry with veterans like RR Garcia, after several mainstays used up their eligibility following last year. History lesson: In their first round encounter back in Season 74, all eyes were on RR Garcia on the Tams' last possession, so the former MVP made the smart move, attracting the defense and then kicking the ball out into the hands of Cris Tolomia, who drained the game-winning triple, 62-59. The Tams trailed by as much as 13 in the third period, but UST faltered late, which left the door open for FEU comeback. It looked like history would repeat itself in round two, as UST's 18-point second half lead evaporated in the third, courtesy of a 14-2 explosion by the FEU players. Down the stretch however, UST turned to their workhorse, center Karim Abdul, and he managed to buck an untimely unsportsmanlike foul to put away the game, 77-73. Abdul finished with a 20-13 performance, as the Growling Tigers played like a team fighting for a post-season berth, despite having locked it up prior to tip-off. UST projected starting five: Jeric Fortuna (9.7 points 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.3 steals, 1.9 turnovers in FilOil) - point guard, Jeric Teng - shooting guard, Karim Abdul - center, Aljon Mariano - small forward, Kevin Ferrer - power forward FEU projected starting five: RR Garcia (13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.0 steals, 2.7 turnovers in FilOil) - shooting guard, Terrence Romeo - point guard, Roger Pogoy - small forward, Carl Bryan Cruz - power forward, Anthony Hargrove - center (page updates automatically, game starts at 4pm)
