Philippine 'Kings of the Road' to represent the country in SEA Championships
This year’s Adidas King of the Road winners will earn a free trip to Singapore to represent the Philippines in the KOTR Southeast Asia Championships, organizers said in a press launching on Wednesday at a restaurant inside the sprawling Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Filipino runners in the male and female categories of the elite 16.8 km closed category of the Philippine edition of the KOTR slated for September 30 will receive an all-expense participation in the Adidas KOTR Southeast Asia Championship to be held on October 28. While the Philippine edition of the KOTR will again start and end inside the Bonifacio Global City, the Singapore race will begin and end in Singapore’s newest iconic landmark, the Gardens by the Bay, where representatives from the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia will converge to fight it out for the KOTR SEA champion crowns. Thailand’s version of the KOTR will start this year’s contests on July 29, which will be followed by the Malaysia race on September 9. The Indonesian event is slated on September 16 followed by the Philippines' race. Organizers are expecting 12,000 runners to compete in the races as Adidas tries to bring the best runners from the five countries to Singapore’s 100-hectare park. “The Adidas King of the Road is a platform that allows runners to achieve their personal best. As a global leader, Adidas continuously provides top of the line products, technology, and events that support runners to be the best they can be,” said Jason Gervasio, Adidas Brand Communications and Sports Marketing Manager during the press launching. Aside from the 16.8km event, participants can opt to participate in the 5k and 10k events and choose a multi-color adidas singlet. There is also an Open Category for foreign runners, and all finishers will receive Adidas medals. Entry fees for the event are P1,050 for the 5k and 10k while those who will compete in the 16.8k will pay P1,300. Interested runners can register at 5 KOTR registration sites from July 25 to September 23 at Adidas Megamall, Adidas Rockwell, Adidas SM Mall of Asia, Adidas Trinoma, and Adidas Greenbelt, with sites open seven days a week from 12 noon to 8 in the evening. Those who wish to register online can go to the KOTR website.
