The PATTS College of Aeronautics upset Arellano University Chiefs, 88-71, in the 14th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men's basketball tournament on Friday. The PATTS Sea Horses were powered by JB Ferreria to remain in contention for a Final Four semifinals slot after they registered their fifth win in seven games at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Sports Center. This enabled the Sea Horses to catch up with the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, who are in fourth position after their 103-81 beating of the Olivarez College Sea Lions. Earlier, Jesus Patambang banged in 20 points for La Salle-Dasmarinas as it downed Unibersidad de Manila, 93-59, to hike its record to fifth spot with a 5-3 win-loss card. On the women's side, Josephine Alday led with 20 points as La Salle-Dasmariñas downed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 75-62, and bagged the first finals slot in the women's division. The Chiefs' loss, their second as against six wins, dropped them to second behind the St. Francis Doves, 7-2. Ferreria made 16 points, 11 of it in the first quarter, enabling PATTS to take charge with a 20-8 spread. The Sea Lions forced numerous turnovers in the second period, and with James Abugan making 11 of 17 points, they went on to post a 51-31 halftime advantage. RJ Cui showed the way for the Sea Lions with 19 points and is expected to again lead the team when it battles the Asian College of Science and Technology Lightnings in a crucial 1:30 p.m. clash Saturday at the Arellano-Legarda Gym. The game will decide if the PATTS Sea Horses can keep alive their hopes of making it to the semis.
