The National University Bulldogs and the De La Salle University Green Archers seek a momentum-boosting win at the back-end of the first round of the 75th UAAP tournament, when they clash on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at 12 noon. After starting the season 2-2, the host school NU finally broke through with a win against the FEU Tamaraws, their first and so far only victory against a team with a record above .500. They then used that as a springboard to notch their first pair of back-to-back triumphs, beating the Adamson Falcons afterwards to move up to 4-2. The other team in this contest, La Salle, was mired in a three-game losing streak, before finally notching a victory against Adamson as well, to hit the .500 mark at 3-3. Still, the Archers can't be happy about the closely-fought 56-52 win, as the Falcons were playing their first game without marquee player Alex Nuyles, whom they lost to a shoulder injury for the rest of the season. The run-and-gun Bulldogs are tops in the league in fast break points (15.3), helped out by their assists mark of 18.2 a game (also best in the league). La Salle though is the best team at defending the fast break, giving up just 6.3 points in that category to opponents, creating an interesting tension in terms of playing styles. The Green Archers are also the best team in terms of field goal defense, allowing just 32.8 percent shooting. However, NU might just gamble on sending them to the line, where DLSU is a miserable 55.5 percent from the stripe as a team. - AMD, GMA News Season 74 history lesson
