Game starts at 2pm. Page auto-refreshes every 30 seconds. First round meeting: The University of the Philippines got their first win of the 75th UAAP season, beating the University of the East Red Warriors 63-48, last August 19 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. UP built a 14-11 lead after the first quarter, but UE tied it up early in the second period, only for the Maroons to go on an 8-0 run. UE managed to close to within a point, 22-21, on a triple by Roi Sumang, but that was as near as they would get for the rest of the game. The Maroons gradually pulled away, before dropping the hammer in the fourth period, when the UP defense allowed just seven points from UE over the ten-minute span. Key stats: UP racked up the hustle points, out-scoring UE 22-3 in transition, and 22-4 off turnovers, with the latter happening because the Maroons made just 13 miscues, versus 22 from the Red Warriors. UE actually could have closed the gap, had they just made their free throws. UP went 11-for-16 from the foul line for 68.8 percent shooting, but UE got 32 looks from the same stripe. Unfortunately, they could only convert half of those attempts. The Red Warriors were also out-assisted by a huge margin, 23-6. The two teams find themselves at the bottom of a lot of statistical categories, namely points scored, field goal percentage and rebounding. With that in mind, things will likely boil down to who can execute better and shoot more high percentage shots, similar to their first round encounter. UP needs to: Take control of the ball while forcing their opponents into turnovers. UP did this to great effect in the first round, and their advantage is the fact that their guys coming off the bench can contribute (29.1 ppg), especially in comparison to UE's reserves (19.1 ppg). That means UP can put pressure on their opponents the entire forty minutes UE needs to: Get scoring from sources other than their starters. In their last game versus NU, the Red Warriors bench scored a paltry two points, out of their 74-point output. They also ought to run more plays for center Chris Javier, who had a standout performance late, with nine of his 19 markers coming in the fourth quarter. UP projected starting five: Mark Lopez (10 points on 3/11 FG, 3/4 FT, 4 rebounds, 5 assists vs ADU) Chris Ball, Raul Soyud, Mike Silungan, Jelo Montecastro, UE projected starting five: Chris Javier (19 points on 7/14 FG, 5/7 FT, 5 rebounds, 1 assist vs NU), Adrian Santos, Gene Belleza, JR Sumido, Roi Sumang
