UAAP: UST's protests versus ADMU rejected
The protest filed by the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers against the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles' 68-66 win last Saturday was rejected by UAAP commissioner Ato Badolato, Monday. UST filed the protest within the allotted 24-hour period, with two complaints. First, that Ateneo head coach Norman Black should have been assessed a technical foul in the last 10 seconds, and second, that Karim Abdul's block of a Ryan Buenafe lay-up with five seconds to go, ought not to be counted as a goaltend. According to Badolato, the goaltending call made by the referee that occurred in the last 5.1 seconds of the game was deemed 'a judgment call' and cannot be reversed. The commissioner did not tell Inboundpass his reason for denying the first complaint. UST still has the option to elevate their protest to the UAAP technical board, similar to what the National University Bulldogs did to earn a replay of their second round match against the FEU Tamaraws. UST is currently tied with FEU, with both teams sporting 9-4 records. With the commissioner upholding their win, Ateneo clinched the top seed at 12-2. - AMD, GMA News Inboundpass has been covering collegiate basketball for six years.
