UAAP: No offer from Ateneo - Alex Compton
A day after reports had his name on Ateneo de Manila University's wish list to fill their vacant head coaching position, former Metropolitan Basketball Association and Philippine Basketball League Most Valuable Player Alex Compton told Inboundpass that he has not received any offer from the school. Compton, a sweet-shooting 6'0" American, said Wednesday that he was surprised when his name appeared in reports as a candidate to mentor the defending five-peat champion Blue Eagles. "I have not received an offer from Ateneo and thus cannot comment on the situation," the 38-year-old Compton said in a text message to Inboundpass. "I was surprised but there's no offer." In the report, ADMU Athletic Director Ricky Palou said that Compton, who is currently an assistant coach for the PBA's Alaska Aces, was in the running to replace Norman Black, the coach who led Ateneo to UAAP titles from 2008 to 2012. Black, following the end of Season 75, returned to the PBA to coach the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters. "Alex [Compton] is being seriously considered," said Palou, who also named Black's assistants with Ateneo and TNT Sandy Arespacochaga and Jamike Jarin as candidates for the job. When asked if he would consider the job should an offer arrive, Compton did not reply. Compton in the past has also served as an assistant for the PBA's Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Powerade Tigers. - AMD, GMA News Inboundpass has been covering collegiate basketball for six years.
