NCAA: Perpetual Help defends titles in women's, men's volleyball
The University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Altas successfully defended their NCAA men's and women's volleyball titles this past week, with the men's team completing a sweep of the tourney, versus the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, while the women's team triumphed over San Sebastian College-Recoletos. The women's side retained their volleyball title on Wednesday, via a straight sets win, 25-19, 25-17 and 25-16, against SSC-R, at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan. Honey Tubino led the Altas with 17 points off 13 kills, while team captain April Sartin and Sandra Delos Santos added 15 and 12, respectively. San Sebastian was led by Gretchel Soltones with 15, but no other Lady Stag contributed more than five points. Only five players scored for San Sebastian, which dropped the last two matches, after winning the first match of the best-of-three finals. Last Saturday, Perpetual defeated the EAC Generals for the second straight time in their best-of-three finals, 25-21, 18-25, 25-21, 25-21. It was a complete sweep for the Altas in Season 88, as they went unbeaten in the elimination round, before winning all of their matches in the Final Four stage. In the Juniors division, Emilio Aguinaldo College fought from being the third seed in the Final Four to emerge as champions after defeating top-ranked San Sebastian in the Finals. The EAC-ICA shocked the Staglets by winning in straight sets in the first game of their best-of-three series on Saturday, before winning in four sets on Monday, also at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan. - AMD, GMA News
