Vilog, Araullo win national triathlon event
George Vilog on Sunday showed why he is the man to beat this year and Sandra Araullo dominated the women's event of the 2007 National Triathlon Championship even without really trying. Vilog relaunched his career at the Clearwater Country Club in Clark Field, Pampanga, after a hiatus in the competition, beating 2005 Southeast Asian Games Arland Macasieb in the process. Better still, the 31-year-old Vilog posted a record of sort when he won his fourth national title in the 1.5-kilometer swim, 4-k bike and 10k run event. "I put my mind to winning to gain my spot in the national team," said Vilog who posted a time of two hours, one minute and 53 seconds. Araullo, who said that she was merely supporting the triathlon program when she decided to compete, bested young rivals Mimi Lucas and Lea Coline Langit. "My priority this year is to finish my graduate studies, so I am not expecting this. I joined just to show my support to the competition and program of the triathlon association," said Araullo, who won the event in 2004 and 2005.- GMANews.TV
