The defending champions Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles will be out in force to defend their title when they clash against the National University Bulldogs, Sunday at the MOA Arena, in the final game of UAAP Season 76's opening weekend.
Ateneo hasn't lost to NU in the UAAP since September 15, 2007, and gave them two one-sided drubbings in Season 75. However, this squad of Blue Eagles doesn't quite have the firepower of its five-peat team, what with stalwarts like Nico Salva, Justin Chua and Greg Slaughter lost to graduation.
Adding to Ateneo's woes is an injury to Kiefer Ravena that will supposedly sideline him for this game. While "The Phenom" tweeted out that he will play, it's likely that the coaching staff will want him to be at 100 percent first, meaning holdovers like Juami Tiongson and Ryan Buenafe will have to up their play in order to snatch victory.
NU on the other hand added some more firepower to their ranks, with JJ Alejandro and Alfred Aroga getting moved up from Team B. Back-to-back reigning MVP Bobby Ray Parks is still around as well, but the Bulldogs best not be overconfident, as their offense is still prone to sputtering out, like in the FilOil Finals versus UE.
Game starts at 4pm
