UAAP: ADMU vs UE round one preview and live-scoring
Game starts at 2pm. Live-scoring refreshes automatically every 30 seconds.
The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and the University of the East Red Warriors go head-to-head against each other on Wednesday at the MOA Arena, as despite past triumphs, the two have yet to make their mark in the 76th season of the UAAP.
Ateneo (1-3), the reigning five-peat champs, took four games to notch their first victory, triumphing against an Adamson Falcons squad that saw their starting center Ingrid Sewa (4 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks in 23 minutes) rendered ineffective after an early shoulder injury.
While the returning Kiefer Ravena was not much of a factor (4 points, 2 rebounds), the team got a big lift from starting point guard Juami Tiongson (15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists) and back-up center JP Erram (12 points, 12 rebounds). If they can continue to get team-wide contributions, instead of leaning solely on Ryan Buenafe and Chris Newsome, the Blue Eagles could make a run in the tail-end of round one.
UE (1-3) forged great expectations for themselves after winning the FilOil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup in the summer, but they haven't been able to live up to them so far, with their sole triumph coming on a game-winning four-point play by Roi Sumang. Making matters worse, center Charles Mammie had to serve a one-game suspension in their last game versus UST, and they lost in disappointing fashion, giving up a 14-3 run in the final three minutes of the match.
Defense has been UE's kryptonite, even with Mammie. Prior to their Saturday defeat with Mammie inactive, they conceded 51.1 percent shooting inside the arc to their opponents, and gave up 12.0 second-chance points, the most in the league. And while Ateneo may not have a back-to-the-basket center, they boast of an array of cutters and slashers, and a squad with a penchant for gang-rebounding, so the Red Warriors will need to stay on their toes.
Game starts at 2pm.
