The league-leading FEU Tamaraws will try to bounce back from their first loss of the season, while the DLSU Green Archers hope to gain some separation from the middle part of the standings, on Sunday at the MOA Arena, in the second round of the 76th season of the UAAP.
Round one encounter
The DLSU Green Archers looked confident, thanks to a 75-63 lead with two minutes left in the fourth quarter, but the FEU Tamaraws were not about to go down easily, closing out regulation with 12 unanswered to force an extra five minutes.
There, the Archers' offense melted down, as they got just one made field goal out of 10 attempts. They were no better at the foul line either, as Jeron Teng went 2-of-6, allowing FEU to pick up the win, 83-79.
FEU outlook
After a blazing-hot first round, 22.6 points on 40.4 percent shooting, with 6.3 assists, Terrence Romeo came falling back down to Earth, with some help from the NU defense, producing just eight markers on 3-of-16 shooting, with just three dimes.
With Romeo unable to locate his shot, RR Garcia stepped up with 20 points in 21 minutes, but his sole attempt in the last two minutes of the game came after the final buzzer. That inevitably brought back talk about the two mercurial guards' relationship, but as they say, winning cures all, and beating DLSU would have the Tams looking mighty anew.
DLSU outlook
Coming into the season, the Green Archers raised eyebrows, when they opted to line-up just 13 players, three short of the league maximum. While their shortened rotation has looked impressive at times, any sort of injury would in theory ruin their balance. Luckily for them, that was not the case versus Adamson, as despite not having Thomas Torres and Luigi Dela Paz, they squeaked by in OT, despite having to give extended minutes to LA Revilla, Jarelan Tampus, Kib Montalbo and Matt Salem.
Should that pair be back in full health for this game, it's likely head coach Juno Sauler will revert back to his old rotation. However, he'll hope that his Archers retain their nose for the ball, as they turned 17 Adamson miscues into 23 turnover points. With FEU norming just 12.5 turnovers and 8.5 turnover points per game though, both league-best marks, the Archers will likely need to execute in the half court as well.
