The winless UP Fighting Maroons have opted to shake up their coaching staff in the hopes of kick-starting their team, letting go of coach Ricky Dandan following two and a half seasons.

GMA News Online Sports learned from several sources close to the situation that Dandan is no longer with the team, and that assistant Rey Madrid is set to take over for the rest of the season.

Formerly the director of the basketball program of Ateneo De Manila University, Dandan took over for Boyet Fernandez, following UP's 0-14 campaign in 2010. However, in his maiden campaign, UAAP Season 74, the Maroons amassed just two wins in 14 games, before slipping to 1-13 last year.

Through eight games of Season 76, UP is winless at 0-8. In their last outing, versus Katipunan-rivals ADMU Blue Eagles, UP went up 33-22 with 3:48 left in the second quarter, but went on to lose 67-59.

UP's last win came on August 19, 2012, against the UE Red Warriors. Their next game in the current season is Wednesday, also against that team. - Job B. De Leon / AMD, GMA News
