UAAP: UE Red Warriors Mammie and Casajeros, DLSU Green Archer Thomas Torres, draw suspensions

The UAAP on Tuesday announced suspensions for a pair of University of the East Red Warriors, center Charles Mammie and guard Lord Casajeros, while De La Salle University Green Archer Thomas Torres was also met with a sanction.

Mammie and Casajeros were each given two-game bans for their play against Far Eastern University Tamaraw Terrence Romeo, whose side defeated UE in double overtime, 98-94, last Sunday. Mammie had stuck his foot under Romeo, after the latter launched a jump shot, causing the guard to stumble upon landing. Casjaeros meanwhile was punished for a closed-fist punch.

This is the second suspension for the 6'8" Mammie. He previously was forced to sit his team's game against the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers back in round one. On the other hand, it is Casajeros' first suspension, but the defensive stopper was forced to sit out two games as well.

Mammie is his team's second-best scorer with 13.9 points per game, and is their best rebounder, with 17.4 boards an outing. Casajeros meanwhile puts up 6.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists a game, though his absence will be felt more on the defensive end.

Torres on the other hand drew a one-game suspension for accumulating his second unsportsmanlike foul, a punch directed at former Green Archer Joseph Marata, during DLSU's match versus the UP Fighting Maroons last Saturday, which his team won in a rout, 85-63.

Ironically, Torres had just returned from missing two games due to illness. The second-year floor general is averaging 7.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.1 steals versus 3.0 turnovers.

The two UE players will miss an August 31 game versus the NU Bulldogs and a September 4 battle with the DLSU Green Archers. Torres will be forced to sit out his team's rivalry match against the ADMU Blue Eagles, Sunday, September 1. - CLP/AMD, GMA News
