The National University Pep Squad delivered an exhilarating performance on Sunday at the MOA Arena, unseating three-time defending champions University of the Philippines for their first UAAP Cheerdance Competition crown.

"Nag-focus kami kung san kami mahina last year," said NU Pep Squad captain Adrian Alban. "Sa dance kami nag-focus."

NU received a total of 696.5 points, while UP's hopes of a four-peat were dashed, as they settled for second with 620.5. A clean routine from the De La Salle University Animo Squad netted them 596.5 points, good enough for third.

It has been a show of great improvement from NU, who surprised spectators last year with a third place finish.

"Nag-start kami nung summer, four to five months [of preparation]," added Alban. "Everyday, from 6pm onwards."
