UAAP: UST Tigresses begin campaign with a win over UP

The University of Santo Tomas Tigresses began their UAAP Season 76 campaign with a win over the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 25-15, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.
UST kept UP in this game longer than needed, giving up 32 points thanks to their errors, compared to just 21 from the Lady Maroons. As a result, they were unable to build off their strong first set performance, going down the wire in the other three frames.
Sophomore Jem Gutierrez top-scored for UST with 20 markers, 17 off spikes. Carmela Tunay added 17 points, 12 on spikes, two on blocks and three via serves. Pam Lastimosa contributed 12 markers as well.
Katherine Bersola led UP with 13 points, eight from spikes, four from blocks and one via service ace. Chester Ong was the only other Lady Maroon in double-figures with 10. - AMD, GMA News
