Over 10,000 student-athletes to compete in 2015 Palarong Pambansa – DepEd

Young athletes—over 10,000 from all over the country—will join this year's Palarong Pambansa in Tagum City in Davao del Norte, the Department of Education said Wednesday.

The DepEd said the student-athletes from public and private elementary and secondary schools are expected to compete in various sporting events on May 3-9.

Quoting Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro, the DepEd said the Palaro is more than a sports event.

"Palaro depicts the crucial role of sports in inculcating a sense of well-roundedness among the Filipino youth. This year, we are taking it further by not only aiming to produce holistic and strategic-minded young individual, we are also promoting respect for fellowmen regardless of religion, ethnicity or gender," Luistro said.

Playing fields, billeting, hygiene facilities and nourishment provisions are in place for the athletes, coaches and trainers, the education department added.  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
