Pagulayan wins UPA world summit pool title
Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan bagged the UPA World Summit of Pool title at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to www.azbilliards.com Sunday. Pagulayan came back from the losersâ bracket to avenge his only defeat in the tournament against Shane Van Boening of the United States and win the crown. Boening defeated Pagulayan, 11-4, in the semifinals of the winnersâ category to reach the finals. But Pagulayan defeated compatriot Francisco Bustamante, 11-4, that enabled him to get out of the losers bracket and face Boening in the finals. Pagulayan took a 5-2 lead in the race-to-seven final match. However, Van Boening tied the match at 5-all. The breaks of the game went to Pagulayan as Van Boening suffered a scratch on the break in the 11th rack which became the turning point for Pagulayan who won the next two racks and the title. Pagulayan pocketed $12,000 while Van Boening settled for $5,0000. Bustamante and another Filipino, Warren Kiamco, finished as part of the top four players. - GMANews.TV
