PBA Semis: Alaska takes 2-0 lead vs San Miguel
The Alaska Aces dealt San Miguel a crushing 93-68 defeat to gain a 2-0 advantage in their best-of-seven semi-finals encounter at the Talk âN Text-PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum. So dominating was Alaska's offense that they even led by 31 points, 86-55, with still 5:21 left in the fourth quarter, which forced San Miguel Coach Siot Tanquincen to call a time-out to stop the Aces' offensive onslaught. An 11-4 run, sparked by former UAAP MVP Enrico Villanueva and NCAA MVP Gabby Espinas, managed to cut down the Acesâ lead to just 24 points at 90-66, with less than two minutes left in the ball game, but that was all the Beermen could muster in a so-so performance. Confident of an impending victory, Aces Coach Tim Cone even managed to field in some of his bench players led by Dale Singson, Rensy Bajar, Poch Juinio, and Aaron Aban, to the delight of their faithful fans and supporters led by its owner Fred Uytengsu, who trooped to the Araneta Coliseum to cheer for their team. The Aces, who entered the semifinals for the first time since the 2002 Governor's Cup, led from start to finish as the Beermen suffered from poor shooting and successive turn-overs. San Miguel only shot 9-37 from the field in the first half. Game 3 between the Aces and the Beermen will be played this coming Sunday also at the Big Dome.
