Aces, Pals face off at PBA Fiesta Conference finals

It will be Alaska Aces and Talk N Text Phone Pals competing for the 2007 Talk 'N Text - PBA Fiesta Confence title. The Aces upended San Miguel Beermen, 113-109, after two gruelling extra periods in Game 6 of their best-of-seven semifinals to enter the championship round, according to results posted at www.pba.ph. After that Aces victory, the Phone Pals arranged the title showdown with a 122-110 win over the Red Bull Barakos in their version of a Game 6 semifinals game at the Araneta Coliseum Sunday night. "I forgot what it feels like to be in the Finals. It's not sinking in just yet," said Tim Cone in an article posted at the www.pba.ph. Cone will be coaching in his 19th Finals with Alaska since joined the Uytengsu franchise in 1989. Both the Aces and the Pals closed out the series, 4-2. Alaska won their last conference title during the 2000 All-Filipino Cup and had not won an import-laced conference since the 1998 Commissioner's Cup with Devin Davis as import. It was a frustrating loss for the Beermen who appeared on the way to a deciding Game 7 when they built a 76-65 advantage early in the fourth. But they melted down offensively and missed six of 10 free throws in the last two minutes of the fourth. The scores: Alaska 113 – Ellis 34, Miller 20, Hugnatan 16, Cortez 15, Belasco 7, Singson 5, Aban 4, Thoss 4, Laure 4, Ferriols 4, Bajar 0, Juinio 0.
