The supplier of Philippine athletes' uniforms featuring the Philippine flag with the red field on top has apologized to the country's sports officials for the mistake.
Clarence V. Fajardo, owner of World Champion Trading, sent a letter addressed to Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose "Peping" Cojuangco expressing "our deepest apologies for the mistake."
Fajardo's company supplied the uniforms for the Philippine track and field team for the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore. According to him, a total of 16 pieces of the uniforms featured flags with the red band on top, which according to the Constitution should only be used in time of war.
"This mistake was solely our fault and was clearly caused by human error on our part," said Fajardo. "It was not our intention to create such an awkward situation for the team and for you. We are now working overtime to have these misprinted items replaced as quickly as possible."
The wrong flags drew flak online after being featured on the uniforms of Filipino-American sprinters Eric Cray and Kayla Richardson, who won the respective 100-meter races in the competition. —JST, GMA News
