The University of the Philippines-Diliman has released the official logo for its sports teams, after a new logo that was leaked online drew flak on social media.

The new logo for the UP Fighting Maroons was posted on UP Diliman's official Facebook page early Monday. It features a raised fist, which the institution said "unifies the UP community in the spirit of solidarity," as well as the "M Cut," which stands for "Maroons."

"The main logo highlights our institution's unique history and tradition -- catalysts for change and defenders of the people," it said.

In a separate post, the state university explained that its officials tapped the assistance of #nowheretogobutUP, "a volunteer alumni group helping UP sports," after the outcry over the "unintended, unauthorized, and unofficial release of one of the options for the new logo."

A design team of "topnotch UP alumni in the design industry" worked on the new logo designs pro bono, which were then placed under a series of consultations with concerned groups.

At the helm of the design team were leading advertising professionals, Mandy Reyes of Industria Productions and Pete Jimenez of Optima Digital.

Its team leader, meanwhile, was award-winning designer and illustrator Dan Matutina, with members Kay Aranzanso, Ralph Guibani, and AJ Dimarucot.
