James Sena of the Jose Rizal University was chosen by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Press Corps as its ANTA Player of the Week. Sena, the Heavy Bombers' “main man," was a force underneath the basket as he averaged 16 points, 13 rebounds and two shots blocks in the last two games that kept his team in the thick of the fight for the top two spots of the Final Four, said the association Saturday. That impressive showing is enough to name him the NCAA Press Corps ANTA player of the week, a recognition given for a player that shone brightest among others every week. The 6-foot-4 Sena's valiant efforts also handed another first - a four in a row win - to his mentor Ariel Vanguardia who joined Jose Rizal only last year. The citation is given by sportswriters covering the 83rd NCAA season. Sena scored his first double-double (16 points and 16 rebounds) last Wednesday as JRU swept aside Mapua, 69-61. Two days later, Sena still appeared unstoppable when he registered another sterling performance with 15 markers and 10 rebounds, as the Heavy Bombers were buoyed to the solo third place (5-3) with an 80-65 win over the St. Benilde Blazers. Sena topped the list of nominees for the best player of the week that include Letran's Carlo Reposar and Yousif Aljamal of defending champion San Beda College. Reposar propelled the Knights on top of the standings (7-1) with his 12 points in Letran's 63-56 triumph over Perpetual Help last Wednesday. Aljamal, on the other hand, towed the Red Lions to their seventh win in eight outings after he wound up with 23 points and grabbed 12 boards in San Beda's 96-76 routing of San Sebastian last Friday. - GMANews.TV
