NCAA: Court lets Aljamal play in Red Lions game vs Heavy Bombers
San Beda College (SBC) star basketball player Yousif Aljamal Jr. was allowed to play in the Red Lions game on Wednesday against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers at the 83rd National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Last week, the NCAA banned Aljamal from playing further, because he failed to inform the league that he was joining the rookie draft of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), which took place last Sunday. Aljamal was taken by the Air21 Express. But on Wednesday, Judge Reynaldo Ros of the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 33 issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the NCAA preventing it from enforcing the ban against Aljamal. In his order, Ros found the petition of San Beda and Aljamal meritorious, noting that the game for which Aljamal was barred from playing was to start a stage wherein the outcome would determine the Final Four in the NCAA. Citing the Rules of Court, Ros said an ex-parte 72-hour TRO âshall issue if the matter is of extreme urgency and the applicant will suffer grave injustice or irreparable injury before the matter can heard on notice." Ros directed the Management Committee (MANCOM) of the NCAA not to enforce its resolution within 72 hours. San Beda team officials defended Aljama, saying that there was still no clear-cut policy or any written ruling that any NCAA player who wants to join the PBA needs to secure the MANCOMâs approval. - GMANews.TV
