CUSA: Stallions stomp on Cobras, 67-66

Defending champion Manuel Luis Quezon University strengthened its title-retention bid, edging upset-conscious De Ocampo Memorial College, 67-66, Thursday in the 13th Colleges and Universities Sports Association (CUSA) men's basketball tournament at the Trinity University gym in Quezon City. Jopher Custodio and Jack Manalansan provided the 1-2 punch for the Stallions, who overcame a touigh stand by the Cobras en route to their eighth win in nine matches in this eight-team, double-round tournament, a CUSA statement said on Thursday. Custodio finished with 22 points, while Manalansanna added 17. Marcy Cobacha fired 13 points for the Cobras, who dropped to third place with a 5-4 win-loss record. In another game, Central Colleges of the Philippines humbled Metro Manila College, 99-81, to improve to a 6-3 win-loss card. Mark Pangilinan, Tony Sonza, and Jeff Benabese combined for 60 points for the Bobcats of coach Elias Tolentino. Rommel Carampil and Jericho Puno paced the Bisons with 16 and 13 points, respectively. In the women's division, the Philippine College of Criminology crushed the Trinity University of Asia, 87-49. Grace Quemada scattered 29 points for the Lady Enforcers to defeat the Broncos.
