Filipino Olympian Ian Lariba has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

A report by Chino Trinidad on Unang Balita on Thursday said that Lariba, a two-time UAAP most valuable player awardee,  must undergo treatment as soon as possible.

Her friends and classmates at the De La Salle University are asking for financial assistance and blood donations.

The DLSU has already released an official statement on the condition of Lariba, who had been part of the university's table tennis program.

The 22-year-old table tennis player had been preparing for the World Championships in Germany and the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.

Last year, she became the first Filipina to represent the country at the 2016 Rio Olympics after winning at the Asian Qualification Tournament in Hong Kong. — Jessica Bartolome/MDM, GMA News
