UAAP: Tamaraws, Tigresses bag taekwondo titles

The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws punched in a perfect 5-0 record over the weekend to capture the senior's men division taekwondo title at the 70th UAAP. In the women's matches, the UST Tigresses successfully defended their title with a perfect 5-0 record. The male jins won their matches over Ateneo (4-3), De La Salle (4-3), University of the East (6-1), University of the Philippines (6-1), and UST (4-3). The UST Growling Tigers took second spot with 4-1 win-loss record. The Ateneo Blue Eagles took the third spot with a 3-2 win-loss card followed by the La Salle Green Archers in fourth place with a 2-3 card, the UP Fighting Maroons in fifth with a 1-4, and the UE Red Warriors in sixth with a dismal 0-5. The UST lady jins took home the crown after defeating Ateneo (7-0), De La Salle (6-1). FEU (4-3), UE (7-0), and UP (4-3). The UP Lady Maroons, meanwhile, took the second spot with a 4-1 win-loss card, followed by the FEU Lady Tamaraws in third with 3-2, the Ateneo Lady Eagles in fourth with 2-3, the La Salle Lady Archers in fifth with 1-4, and the UE Lady Warriors in sixth with 0-5. In the junior men's division, UST was also adjudged as the champion with its perfect 5-0 win-loss card. Runner-up honors went to Ateneo for its 4-1 win-record. Rounding out the third to sixth place were the UP Integrated School, (3-2); UE, (2-3); De La Salle Zobel, (1-4) and FEU, (0-5). Named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the senior men's division of the taekwondo championship was Rene Ng Jr. of FEU, while Rookie of the Year honors went to Michael Realista also of FEU. The MVP of the senior women's division went to UST's Kathleen Valenzuela, while the Rookie of the Year plum went to Emron Mae Golding also of UST. The junior's men's division MVP went to UST's Carl Espiritu, while the Rookie of the Year plum went to Jerry del Rosario also of UST. - GMANews.TV
