Luevano beats Davis to keep WBO featherweight title

American Steven Luevano retained via unanimous decision his WBO featherweight title against compatriot Antonio Davis in a 12-round bout Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout is the immediate prelude to the main event – the rematch between the Philippines' Manny Pacquiao and Mexico's Marco Antonio Barrera. At stake in this main event is Pacquiao's WBO International super featherweight title. In an earlier fight, Mexican Librado Andrade became the new USBA super middleweight champion, beating American Yusaf Mack to the vacant title by a technical knockout in the seventh of a 12-round bout Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Andrade knocked down a wobbly Mack thrice in the seventh round, the second time almost sending the American through the ropes. The referee stopped the contest immediately on seeing Mack down on his knees for the third time. Before the Andrade-Mack fight, American welterweight Steve Forbes won by split decision over Mexican Francisco Bojado Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) in an undercard to the Pacquiao-Barrera rematch at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Manila. It was a nontitle 10-round bout. Three other Mexicans also lost their bouts – all nontitle – earlier in the evening. In the third bout, an eight-rounder, American lightweight Vicente Escobedo bested Miguel Angel Murcia via unanimous decision. In the second bout, a six-rounder, Filipino featherweight Mike Farenas won in Round 2 of technical knockout against Mexican Arturo Valenzuela. In the third bout, another six-rounder, American featherweight Alejandro Perez TKO'd Mexican Jaime Villa in Round 5. Covering the main event for Solar Sports and GMA Network are Quinito Henson, Chino Trinidad, and North Cotabato Gov. Manny Piñol.
