Hidilyn Diaz reflects on being an athlete in a poem before clinching gold in Asian Games
Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz has revealed that she pondered on being an "just an athlete" while bringing pride to her country, days before she competed and clinched the gold in the 2018 Asian Games.
On Twitter on Friday, Diaz posted of her moving poem, saying that despite being called an "atleta lang," her profession also sent her to school and work.

Diaz bagged the gold during the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia as Turkmenistan’s Kristina Shermetova, the same woman who denied the Filipina the gold in last year’s world championships, had a bad lift at 116 kgs.
Diaz, meanwhile, lifted a submitted lift of 117 kgs to stroll toward the top of the podium.
Diaz lifted 92 kgs in the snatch and 115 kgs in the clean and jerk for a total of 207, enough to shove Shermetova (206) to the silver medal. Thailand’s Khambao Surodchana completed the podium with 201 kgs. — RSJ, GMA News
